Moving day checklist
What to do the night before, the morning of, and when it's time to hand over the keys.

Moving day goes best when the small things are sorted the night before, so the day itself is just about the move. Here’s a simple run-through.
The night before
- Finish packing everything except what you’ll need first thing in the morning.
- Set aside an essentials bag: chargers, medication, documents, a change of clothes.
- Confirm your parking arrangement for the truck, especially if you’re in a condo or on a narrow street.
- Charge your phone — you’ll want it for coordinating on the day.
- Get a proper night’s sleep if you can. Moving day is easier with some rest behind you.
The morning of
- Clear a path from each room to the door before your crew arrives.
- Do a final walkthrough of closets, cabinets and drawers — it’s easy to leave something behind.
- Point out anything fragile, heavy or awkward as the crew gets started.
- Keep your essentials bag and any documents with you, not on the truck.
- If you’re in a condo, confirm your elevator booking window is active before loading begins.
Handing over the keys
- Do a final walkthrough of the empty home once everything is loaded.
- Leave keys, fobs or garage remotes where agreed — with the new owner, a realtor, or building management.
- Take a few photos of the empty space, useful for any move-out inspection or deposit return.
- Update your address for mail, banking and any subscriptions if you haven’t already.
At your new place
- Point out where large furniture should go as it comes off the truck — it saves moving things twice.
- Unpack the essentials box first, then work room by room.
- Check appliances and utilities are connected and working.
