Choosing your moving date
Weekday vs weekend, why month-end is busy in Toronto, and how much lead time to give yourself when booking.

There’s no single “best” day to move, but a few things are worth weighing when you’re picking a date, especially in Toronto.
Weekday vs weekend
Weekends are the most requested time to move, since most people are off work — which also means moving companies and building elevator bookings are busiest then. A weekday move, if you can arrange the time off, often means more flexibility on timing and an easier elevator or loading-dock booking if you’re in a condo.
Why month-end gets busy in Toronto
Many leases in Toronto run on a monthly cycle, so the last few days of the month — and the first couple of days of the next — tend to be the busiest time for movers across the city. If your move date falls near month-end, it’s worth booking earlier rather than later, and confirming any building elevator windows well ahead of time.
How much lead time to give yourself
The more notice you can give, the more room there is to plan around your preferred date, arrange building bookings, and sort out any details that come up along the way. If your date is flexible, a weekday or a date away from month-end can sometimes be easier to arrange around your building’s own booking calendar.
A few questions to help you decide
- Does your building need an elevator or loading-dock booking, and how far ahead does it need to be requested?
- Is your move date near the end or start of a month?
- Do you have any flexibility if your first-choice date is hard to arrange around your building’s schedule?
- Are you moving long-distance, where the route and timing matter as much as the date itself?
