Condo moving checklist for Toronto

Booking the elevator, sorting building forms, planning parking and timing your move around your building's rules.

Moving out of — or into — a Toronto condo has its own steps that a house move doesn’t. Most of them come down to one thing: your building has rules, and the earlier you know them, the smoother your move day goes.

Book the elevator early

Most condo buildings require an elevator booking for move day, usually in a fixed window of two to four hours. Popular buildings can book up weeks in advance, especially around the end of the month, so this is the first thing to arrange once you have a move date.

Get the building’s move-in/move-out forms sorted

Many buildings ask for a move-in or move-out form, and some ask for a refundable deposit before they’ll confirm your elevator booking. Ask your property management for the exact process as soon as you know your date — some buildings need this a week or more ahead of time.

Plan parking for the truck

Figure out where the moving truck will park before the day arrives: a loading dock, a designated moving bay, or visitor parking. Downtown buildings especially can have limited options, so this is worth confirming alongside your elevator booking, not as an afterthought.

Confirm your move window with your movers

Once you know your building’s booked window, share it with us so the move is planned to fit inside it — loading and unloading both need to happen within the time your building has given you.

A short checklist

  • Book your building’s elevator or loading dock as early as your building allows.
  • Ask about move-in/move-out forms and any deposit required.
  • Confirm where the truck will park.
  • Share your booked window with your movers well before the day.
  • Keep your building’s move coordinator’s contact info handy in case anything needs confirming last minute.
